SVEP Guidelines Change

GSSC's Immediate Response to the Change in the ICE International Student Regulations

Dear GS,

GSSC is keenly aware of and deeply concerned by today’s announcement by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, and its disruptive effects to the international student community. We hear the concerns of our international students and share their distress during this time.

This past Spring and Summer semester, the Department of Homeland Security had put temporary exemptions in place which allowed international students to take online classes while maintaining their F-1 and M-1 visa status. These exemptions have now been modified for the Fall 2020 semester. You can find detailed information on these changes in the link attached.

As a council, we are especially concerned that non-immigrant students (F-1 and M-1 visa holders) found in non-compliance with these new directives will potentially face removal proceedings.

We are closely monitoring the ongoing immigration changes and how they will affect our student community. As more information comes to light, we will continue advocating for our international students and their well-being by voicing these concerns in our conversations with our administration.

Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with your concerns, and/or your International Student Representative at [email protected]

Sincerely,

Your GSSC
